Building a Modular Ammo Storage System (How I Expanded Mine)
When we started East Ridge Outdoors, the intent was never to launch a handful of calibers and stop there.
From the beginning, we set out to build a complete, organized ammo storage system — and keep expanding it based on real-world use and feedback from the people actually using it.
We’re still early. But the direction is clear.
Where We Are Today
In a short time, we’ve built a solid starting lineup:
- Rifle ammo boxes designed specifically for each caliber
- Rimfire modular storage for bulk and field use
- Shotgun shell boxes built around a standardized exterior
- Wall mounts and transport carriers that support the system
None of these were built as standalone products.
Each one is designed to fit into the same clean, modular system — and that system is growing.
Expanding the Caliber Lineup
One of the most common questions we get is:
“Are you going to make my caliber?”
The short answer: yes — over time, we intend to make every caliber.
Recently, we added a less common caliber to the lineup — .338-378 Weatherby Magnum — after a customer reached out and offered to mail in fired casings (thanks Doug).

That’s often how new calibers start.
If we don’t have physical brass to measure, we can’t build the fit properly. When someone is willing to send a fired casing, it allows us to design and test storage the same way we do with every other caliber.
Some of the future additions to the system will come from those kinds of collaborations.
We do our best to source casings locally, but if you run a caliber we don’t offer yet and you’re open to sending fired brass, there’s a good chance it can move up the development list.
That’s how this lineup expands — steadily and by design.
Field Pocket Packs
As hunters, pocket packs were on our product list from the beginning.
We needed a clean way to carry a small number of rounds in the field without bringing a full ammo box or dealing with loose shells in a pocket.
Whether you’re:
- Climbing into a tree stand
- Tracking or still hunting
- Keeping backup rounds in your truck or side-by-side
Sometimes you only need a handful of rounds — but you still want them organized, protected, and easy to access.
That’s where pocket packs come in.
Shotgun Pocket Packs

Our shotgun pocket packs are built specifically for 12 Gauge 2 ¾" and 3" shells and are now part of the East Ridge lineup.
They’re designed to carry five shells securely while keeping them quiet, protected, and easy to access in the field. No loose rounds shifting around in a pocket or pack.
The pocket pack fits into a specially designed shotgun shell box, so it stores cleanly when not in use — no extra loose gear to dig for at the bottom of your bag or in your ammo storage area.
In practical terms, they’re ideal for:
- Carrying a few extra rounds while grouse hunting
- Keeping slugs accessible for bear protection
- Storing slugs separately from birdshot
Built from tough, flexible material, they follow the same system-first approach — clean fit, durable construction, and seamless integration with the rest of the lineup
Rifle Pocket Packs (In Development)
Rifle pocket packs are currently in development and fill a similar role for centerfire hunting setups.
Unwilling to spend $100 on a spare magazine — and tired of loose rounds clinking together — we wanted a better solution than placing rounds in separate pockets.
The goal is simple: carry a small number of rifle rounds securely, quietly, and in a way that still fits cleanly into the rest of the system.
We’re designing compact carriers made from tough, flexible material that fit in your pocket and integrate directly into specially designed rifle boxes. When not in use, they store with the rest of the system instead of becoming another loose item in your bag or on your shelf.
Like everything we build, the focus is practical field use and getting the details right.
Simple idea. Real gap.
Rimfire 50-Round Cases (In Development)
We’re also working on dedicated 50-round rimfire cases designed to fit cleanly within our existing rimfire storage system.

Our current rimfire boxes are built around bulk storage, but many shooters prefer buying higher-quality ammunition in 50-round boxes — particularly for .22 LR, .22 WMR, and .17 HMR. While 80 and 154 rounds work well for bulk organization, they’re not always ideal when storing premium ammunition packaged in trays of 50.
The goal is to offer individual 50-round cases that fit cleanly into the system — no loose rounds, no half-used trays.
Four 50-round cases will fit into a single rimfire box, keeping everything organized and protected while maintaining the same modular layout.
Like the rest of the lineup, these are being designed for durability, proper fit, and clean integration across the East Ridge storage system.
Reloading Trays (Early Development)
We’ve also begun developing dedicated reloading trays as part of the broader East Ridge system.
The base design is now complete, with caliber-specific fit being finalized as we expand the lineup. Each tray is stackable, features small integrated side handles for easy movement on the bench, and is clearly labeled for the caliber it’s built to hold.

So far, we’ve finalized trays for two less common calibers based on direct customer requests, but additional calibers will be added over time.
For those who reload, organization at the bench matters just as much as long-term storage. These trays are designed to hold cartridges securely during the loading process and then store cleanly with the rest of the system when not in use.
With the core design in place, additional calibers can now be added as the system continues to expand.
Building Out the Storage System
Ammo boxes were the foundation.
But the long-term goal has always been bigger than individual boxes.
We’re actively developing:
- Wall mounts for clean storage setups
- Dual and quad-box carriers for transport
- Shelf-style organization concepts
- Mounting systems that allow the lineup to expand cleanly

The idea is straightforward:
When you look at your ammo storage area, truck, or shooting bench — everything works together.
No mismatched containers.
No clutter.
No guessing what’s inside.
Just a clean, organized system.
Field-Focused Additions
As we keep expanding, we’re also exploring additions that support the way hunters and shooters actually operate.
Trail camera storage is in development.
Battery and camera card organization solutions are being designed.
And further down the road, muzzleloader-focused storage is part of the long-term vision.
We won’t rush these additions. They’ll come when they’re ready — and when they fit the system properly.
Built With Community Input
One of the best parts of building East Ridge has been the feedback.
We’ve received:
- Caliber requests
- Fired casings for new designs
- Field use feedback
- Suggestions that improved the system
That input directly influences what gets built next.
If there’s a caliber or product you want to see added, you can submit it through our Next Caliber Project.
This system isn’t built in isolation.
It grows with the people who use it.
Just Getting Started
East Ridge Outdoors isn’t a finished lineup.
It’s a growing, modular ammo storage system built around real-world use — expanding one step at a time.
We’re focused on building it properly.
And if you’re following along now, you’re watching it take shape from the beginning.
